The IssuesJOBS Delaware has experienced many job losses in the past few years and we need to create jobs and economic prosperity for generations to come. We must attract new industries that are environmentally friendly to our community. “For too long, we have been losing the higher paying jobs with benefits, and now is the time to act to stop this trend.” We must be more pro-active in attracting new businesses to Delaware. Look at what the Financial Center Development Act did for Delaware back in the early 1980’s. That is the reason several banks and others in financial service industries moved their national headquarters here. We need to create legislation similar to this for other industries like the renewable energy companies – windpower, solar power and bio-diesel. |
Look at what the South has done with the auto industry in their region. They have attracted several major manufacturers and hundreds of other companies who supply them. The companies changed their philosophy to just-in-time manufacturing, which forced component manufacturers to locate near the plants. They choose Southern United States to relocate for several reasons. The states provided various tax incentives and created pre-employment training programs tailored to the needs of this industry. “Without an educated workforce and a favorable business climate no businesses would want to relocate in Delaware.” |
